Sagitec’s Innovative Hackathon: New Features Empowering Sagitec’s Pension Solution

Staying ahead in technological innovation often requires a blend of creativity, collaboration, and a keen eye for opportunity. At Sagitec, we embrace these principles wholeheartedly, and we recently hosted our second Hackathon. This event is a testament to our commitment to fostering ingenuity within our teams and delivering cutting-edge solutions to our clients.

A Hackathon is a melting pot of ideas where minds converge to tackle challenges and unearth possibilities. This year’s event centered on leveraging our platform, Xelence, to empower our staff to develop features tailored to meet the evolving needs of our clients.

 Hackathon Objectives

Our main objectives with this Hackathon were threefold:

 Facilitate Learning and Adaptation:

  • Help teams familiarize themselves with our pension administration platform.
  • Provide an opportunity to build features on top of the pension administration platform that our clients want to see.
  • Encourage learning and improvement for future endeavors.

Add Value to Deliverables:

  • Focus on creating value-added features.
  • Aim to enhance upcoming deliveries on our pension projects.
  • Drive innovation and creativity within the teams.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Incorporate retrospection per SAFe principles.
  • Utilize feedback to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and growth.

With these objectives in mind, 21 Sagitecians participated in the event. We announced three team winners from these participants based on criteria including innovation and creativity in the feature, the complete design and development, and how the teams came together to present.

 Hackathon Winning Features

Here are the two winning teams and a quick overview of what features they developed.

 Staging Tables Elimination

Staging tables are commonly used in application development for data integrity and validation. However, they can become cumbersome as the application grows. The winning team tackled this challenge by leveraging Xelence, Sagitec’s low-code/no-code platform. Instead of relying on staging tables, they developed workflows directly from domain models. Information can be stored and retrieved seamlessly without writing code, making creating and modifying double data-entry workflows easier. This approach significantly improves development speed and reduces maintenance efforts.

Membership Account Adjustment

Unlike the strict validations in the employer reporting module, this feature allows internal pension staff to adjust member data within permissible limits. Pension staff can make targeted changes without involving IT in data fixes. Users can view past, current, and future data related to service, contribution, interest, and other items before posting adjustments. Additionally, they can create invoices or credit memos as part of the adjustment process.

These winning teams and their developed features have been integrated into our pension administration platform, and our clients will benefit from the Hackathon.

Conclusion

Sagitec’s second Hackathon showcases the power of collaboration, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. With the successful development and integration of new features into our pension administration platform, we not only enhance our ability to meet the evolving needs of our clients but also solidify our position as industry leaders in technological innovation. As we reflect on the achievements of this event and look forward to future endeavors, we remain steadfast in our commitment to driving positive change, delivering value, and empowering our clients with the tools they need to succeed.
